All those lunchtime yoga classes have paid off. The Denver Business Journal honored Simple Energy with its Healthiest Employer Award this week, highlighted by an award luncheon featuring all 20 Denver/Boulder honorees. The winners, according to the DBJ, “know a thing or two about integrating wellness into their companies’ cultures, and demonstrate it with creative programs and a group mentality of healthy living.”
Being a Boulder-based company means more to us than the great mountain view. It’s about mirroring the city we call home, from the entrepreneurial spirit, the passion amongst the startup community and the shared belief that everyone should do their part to conserve energy and take care of the environment. It also means living a healthy Boulder life.
The last year has been crazy at the Simple Energy office — in a good way. But our employees know the importance of personal health and well-being, and we work hard to make it as easy as possible to live out.
Each week we turn a portion of our office into a yoga studio, providing a free yoga class for all employees. And if staying limber isn’t their thing, Simple Energy employees stay active and burn their competitive juices playing ping-pong, go on group runs or turn meetings into walking meetings outside, hitting the streets of the famous Pearl Street Mall.
Additionally, we encourage our employees to use the RTD public transportation system by supplying them with a free ECO bus pass and Boulder/Denver B-Cycle annual membership. Getting to and from work has never been easier, and avoiding traffic is always a plus.
From the slopes to the gym or that cardio class you’ve been dying to try, we subsidize those costs on an annual basis. Our employees are more encouraged to get and stay active.
In the kitchen, every employee has access to a smorgasbord of free healthy snacks, including fresh fruit, granola and locally-brewed kombucha on tap. CEO and founder Yoav Lurie has held many a meeting on his desk treadmill (yes, we said DESK TREADMILL: see photographic proof here). Staying healthy starts at the top, and Yoav’s top includes a pretty steep treadmill incline.
If treadmills aren’t your thing, all employees have the option to make their desk a standing one. If you’re skeptical on it’s health benefits, read up here.
But perhaps the best part of our office is that we’re looking to share our healthy workplace with even more employees. Check out our current openings to see if you’d be a fit at Simple Energy. We’ll save you a turn on the ping-pong table, and maybe even pour you a cold one.
