Elena is the principal Data Scientist at Simple Energy and is in charge of engineering and fostering data-driven decision-making for the company. She designs experiments, explores datasets, evaluates programs, builds machine-learning algorithms, and serves as the resident statistician at Simple Energy.
Prior to Simple Energy, Elena worked with The Cadmus Group where she evaluated energy efficiency programs and automated data processes. Previously, she completed a 2-year term with the US Peace Corps where she served as a math tutor, business consultant, and coffee extension agent in rural Panama. Elena has also worked as an Impact Analyst for a multi-year study funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation which covered smallholder farmers in post-war Angola. She held a position as the Dining Sustainability Coordinator at Virginia Tech, where she facilitated local/organic food procurement, waste management, and energy efficiency for a 30,000 meal/day college dining program.
Elena holds her M.Sc. in Agriculture, Resource, and Food Economics from Michigan State University and her B.Sc. from Virginia Tech in Environmental Policy & Planning.
