Simple Energy is honored to have our own CEO and Founder Yoav Lurie selected as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards, which recognizes the entrepreneurs that have made significant achievements and taken the road less traveled to launch new companies, open new markets and fuel job growth.
Much like saving energy, this achievement couldn’t be realized without a lot of help. The entire Simple Energy team – in Boulder, across the United States and in Europe – has played a critical role in helping spread our message: motivating people to save energy.
Simple Energy began in the aftermath of one the toughest financial times since the Great Depression. In early 2011, Yoav had to raise funding from venture capitalist firms who were not prone to invest in green technology or environmental solutions. He had to get creative, and remain relentless. Additionally, Simple Energy entered the market against a huge, deep-pocketed competitor. Our response: offer utilities a bridge to close the gap between them and their customers, and refine the sales model to form lasting relationships with utility companies — basically change the way utilities have operated for the last 100 years.
For the last four years, led by Yoav’s entrepreneurial spirit, Simple Energy employees have worked tirelessly to come up with new ways to make energy efficiency fun, social and rewarding not only to better our environment, but to better the relationship between customer and utility.
But perhaps most importantly, in addition to helping and inspiring people to save energy, Yoav is most proud of his volunteer work, an attribute he believes is critical for any entrepreneur. He is a mentor at Merge Lane, an accelerator program for women-owned companies, a Techstars alumni mentor, a NEXT Accelerator mentor, an advisor and member of the Colorado University Energy Innovation Advisory Council and sponsors and hosts multiple tech community meetups, Girl Develop It (Simple Energy is the Principal Sponsor and helped seed the organization’s CO branch) and B Corporation “B The Change” events.
We are honored and inspired to recognized as a finalist at the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year Program and we can’t wait to see what’s next.
